Should I get a massage while sick with a cold or flu? This is a frequently asked question. One thing to keep in mind is that massage is circulatory and having any acute infection contraindicates (not advised) massage. Some typical symptoms of either a cold or flu may include a sore throat, runny nose, coughing, sneezing, fever, or aches. While in the early and acute stages of a cold or flu, a massage can accelerate the onset of the infection and intensify its severity. If you get a massage after the infection has peaked, you may begin to feel sick again but may recover more quickly. Another factor to consider is that if you are having symptoms, you could be contagious and then will be putting the massage therapist and subsequent clients at risk for getting sick. As a massage therapist, I do not recommend a massage during any acute infection.ALL COLORADO MASSAGE THERAPISTS MUST BE REGISTERED WITH THE STATE - LEARN MORE ABOUT THE NEW LAWLearn about Biofreeze![]() |
